Hi Flavus101. This morning after seasoning the Sunday roast I tried my new colony, which gets a varied diet, on Beef OXO cube and they love it,also its a dry food and is easy for them to carry into the nest (Must be packed with nutritious things) I think the list is a good idea to help give the ants a varied diet. cheers Dragonant

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't they suck the liquid so dried food would be bad, right? I'm new to this but I thought that their food has to be moist?

They do suck the liquid out of wet food. However there larvae don't. The whole point of feeding them insects is to give the larvae protein so that they can grow bigger and stronger. There are some videos on youtube where you can see the larvae eating the insects. It is very cool actually. That is an exalt for you dragonant. Could you tell me the species of your colony?

Hello. My M rubra love spiders! they butcher them, then take the parts back to the nest. ( I feel bad about contradicting ) Love sugar water 5%. Don't like some flies some times, particularly the inside colony, who knew? S.

The cold winters in Ireland kill the queens but I think bumble bees are ok to kill.

I know here In Illinois, and most of North America we have had large set backs in bees, from mites and other problems. I don't see bees nearly as much as I used to when I was younger. I found a bunch of small ants(not sure what kind they are) in my house eating cheddar popcorn, they also seem to like blueberry icee's and dark soda. I stepped on the ant covered popcorn and put the whole ant covered nugget in my carpenter food dish, I haven't seen them even touch it though. But, they are pretty shy still being only 3 days old.
