Hi all, I currently only have my iPhone to take pictures with which is fine for my nest pictures but worse than useless for ant pictures! I would like to buy a not too expensive camera from £150 - £250 range with good macro capabilities. I was impressed by the photos on the following Antstore link: www.antstore.net/viewtopic.php?f=206&t=14310 and asked in that thread what camera he used and it was within that price range which surprised me actually, but before I rush into a decision I wondered what other people had and whether they'd recommend their camera or know something that would suit my requirements (I'm no pro so more manual the better) Thanks

I intend on buying a Canon 550D with a variety of lenses, if I can get my Mother to allow me to do so. But that will be out of your budget... by a mile.

That does look like a sweet camera, good luck getting that much money from your Mum! I want a DSLR one day but not sure I can justify that expense currently hence my dilema.

I get a very good allowance of £75 a month and I have £120 ish at the minute. I hardly ever spend money as I'm very picky when it comes to clothes, she jsut says "There's no reason to spend that much on a camera", so I said to her, I'll continue to save and get me my £1200 PC then. It's only an entry level DSLR but it has a lot of the features of the high level cameras.

An entry level DSLR is still a quality camera though! You sound a lot like me, cautious with money etc, I have an older Brother and younger Sister who are both opposite and they are always borrowing money off me because I'm the only one that saves, be careful if that applies to you, it takes years to get money back off an older Brother and now my sister is challenging for longest repayment time possible hehe =)

Lately I've been treating myself with a lot of sweets and drinks as I've been out shopping/picking things up a bit. Wont be buying them anymore.

That looks like quite a nice camera. You must also remember that you will not be using the camera for just ants. Even if you think that at the moment. I think the Panasonic will be great for your needs. However you will want a good photo editing software because you will most likely have to adjust the lighting and crop the picture before use.
