Hi, What set up is best for m.rubra? I don't really want them to dig out of view, other than a slim line farm what is food and cheap?
I was thinking test tubes attached by tubes buried under sand. Similar to Thomas's idea. How does that sound? Any other ideas?
Cheers

I have a slimline. It works well, M. rubra build wide chambers, so you can see them well sometimes.

I see no benefit of a habitat nest over a slimline. The whole point of having a carved nest is so there's no soil or sand to obstruct your view, right?

Well if you had a black out cover the ants will just escavate all of they tuneels meaning thatt by the end of the colony there will be a fully empty carved nest.It stops the likes of a colony getting scared of a huge nest, the nest is the size they want

If you add some sand the colony blocks off chambers they don't want.

I recommend antstore ones with a 35x30x30 foraging area and about a 1 inch wide farm , works epic for me!
