I don't know how much money you have available but a really cool nest design I have come across while researching suits your needs well imo! Two glass basins, one a selected size smaller than the other, so for example, when the smaller one is placed in the larger one (upside down!!) there is a 1cm gap around the entire small basin, this is where you put your sand/loam mixture. Then a THIN covering of sand/soil over the top of the inner glass basin to hide it, then is would make sense to put something they can't dig on top of that, such as small gravel (only on top of where the inner basin is so they can still dig into the outer nest bit!) So then you have a foraging area and nest in one basin, while still using a natural nesting material You'd have to modify the idea to your own needs, you don't really need to use two basins, the inner part can be anything really as long as it's practical, just not a cardboard box as that will go soggy and collapse!! EDIT: I have read the thread a bit more carefully and it seems you've already worked out what I posted between Flavus101 and yourself! Oops

Thanks. I plan a little cheaper though, although what I intend to do is still very similar. I'm going to steal your idea, in your ytong project, of using polystyrene or something similar so I don't need a ton of sand. Thanks again.
