How close were the ants that were curling up, to the cricket?

How close were the ants that were curling up, to the cricket? Quite close to it, I did notice one that was at the start of the tube doing it though.

Did it look as if they were bringing their abdomen around underneath their bodies as if pointing them forwards?

That's funny, I've never seen Myrmica rubra do this before. I thought it was generally something that formicidae ants do, to spray formic acid.

Interesting. They must have smelled the cricket, as most ants can only see a few centimeters, if that.
