Thanks everyone. Amazing forum, such a helpful bunch!
One other thing, how often should I give them water and which method is best? They aren't really going to the outworld yet but they are certainly a lot more active and settling in well I think. Starting to move around the slim tank and move sand/soil around.

Thanks everyone. Amazing forum, such a helpful bunch! Thank you for your kind words, jaay89. It really makes me feel good when I hear comments like that as running a forum can be demanding and stressful work. One other thing, how often should I give them water and which method is best? They aren't really going to the outworld yet but they are certainly a lot more active and settling in well I think. Starting to move around the slim tank and move sand/soil around. I use a cotton wool ball soaked in water inside a plastic dish. Not too wet so that water gathers beneath it. Wet enough so that no excess water is evident but does leave your finger wet when you touch it.

Sorry to bother you with so many questions, I just don't want to kill them or destroy things for them. One last thing, in order to moisten the sand, am i best just dripping some water on top of the sand and let it seep through?

You can do it either way, jaay. I would be tempted to let it soak up from the bottom if you have one of those green ant-worlds. Just place the ant farm in a bowl/sink of water so that the water covers the green stand by a few mm.
@ ttttt, I have just managed to see that picture you posted that shows the queen, worker, and male Myrmica. Excellent find. Well done <exalt!>. However, do remember that if you post pictures from another site you need to credit it to them.

How often should this be done? The sand was moistened 3 days ago. Also, great news. They have started to take eggs down a tunnel! They are really starting to settle.

I moisten my farms only when they need it. Usually once every couple of months.

Would you advise putting in a live cricket to see what the ants do? Or is this a really bad idea?

The ants are curling up? We are they when they do this? In the tube, they aren't all doing it (in fact only 3 or so are) and they do it for a few seconds then go back to normal. They aren't doing it loads either, just a few times. I had a google and it looks like they might be pretending to be dead? I took the cricket out immediately as I was worried something was wrong. I replaced it with some banana. I am being too impatient if I am honest. Must-be-patient!
