My identification is Solenopsis invicta, but I'm not as sure as last time.
I like the photos.

Yes, I knew they were Solenopsis but identifying the exact species is quite tough. Thank-you Billy. Flavus

Trying to identify Florida ants (at least down to the genus) is an interesting challenge for me, since none of them live in my area. I've never seen an ant of the Solenopsis genus. Apparently there are thief ants in my area though, which is exciting since they're rare is the UK.

We get them in UK? Oooh.
By the way, Billy, I got a camera!

No, a compact camera, nikon L110. It's a good quality one. Best thing for beginners. Came with free bag and 4gb memory card. Was meant to be 2gb but they ran out so they gave me a 4gb instead. Il get some snaps tomorrow and post 'em! Also it has 1cm macro.

1 cm means nothing if it's super wide angle. What's the magnification?

Don't know it off the top of my head. It's got a macro setting too...?

Hmm, you could try taking a picture of a measuring tape as close as it will focus, divide the width of the image sensor by the length shown on the photo, and I think that would give you the magnification. The macro mode on point and shoot cameras is rarely true macro (1x or more magnification).

It's quite a fancy point and shoot.

Got a lovely photo of a nesting shag on the cliffside. Still figuring out how to use macro. Going to get a guerrila pod for it soon.

Using macro should be pretty simple. What doesn't work?

It works fine, I just needed to fiddle with it and get used to things. I'm really pleased with this camera, I've taken some high quality pics really easily.
