I was thinking of going pets at home some time this week to get some mealworms for my ants. I was looking on their website and to my surprise there is a load of different types of mealworms. Here is the link: www.petsathome.com/shop/reptile/reptile-food/live-reptile-food/I was wondering what would be the best type for Camponotus ligniperda. The Waxworms look really juicy, but then perhaps the standard ones would be good? I don't know. Let me know what you think guys.

I think the normall mealworms. Though if you feed your ants live food [?]. Give them mini mealworms of waxworms.

What do you think. Should C. ligniperda be fed live food or dead food. They seem big enough to handle themselves. And are the wax worms smaller than the normal ones then? Or do I just feed them baby mealworms? :/

Wax worms are like cattipillars, they turn to moths. They are to juicy for my liking, and turn to moths preatty quick. You chose really about the live food, how big is the colony?

My large colony is about 60+ workers, although my other is about 15- workers. Its good to know that them wax worms turn into moths lol. They would be escaping all into my room. It looks like the normal ones look like the better choice. Another question, how do you feed them to your ants? Do you just drop a live one into the foraging area? If your feeding them it dead, do you cut it in half etc... Let me know.

Yeah. If it is dead I either cut of its head, make it quick. Or freeze it then cut. Drop it in the arena, but there maay not be enough to " take it down".

My ants seem to prefer waxworms to mealworms, but their favourite food by far are those big fat slow flies that come into our houses on hot summer days.

HAHAHA jon, you just made my day. XD I laughed so hard at the my teeth hurt! And yes Myrm, my ant love love LOVE them big fat juicy flies that come in the summer. Especially my ligniperda, it's like their idea of drugs. Hmm... Waxworms or normal mealworms. My mind is torn on this one. The waxworms look nice and soft and easy to bite into. ;D The n.mealworms look hard and armoured, making it harder to bite into. The waxworms turn into darn butterflies! The n.mealworms don't. ;D Darn it! I will wait for more replies to make up my minds. ;D EDIT: Oh, and can you feed the beetles to the ants or just the larvae?

Jon, do you kill the waxworms before you give them to your ants? The waxworms turn into moths which you can also feed to your ants Mealworms turn into bettles which you can also give to your ants

HAHAHAHAHA jon, if you were a mushroom, you would be a fungi.
I know you said a moth, I was just being funny. lol.
Hmm... waxworms look more tempting now, especially knowing you can feed the moths to your ants. In my experience, ants love moths.
waxworms I think it is then. I will go to the shops within the next couple of hours. XD Unless I am persuaded otherwise.
