Yes, another reasons mealworm is better, if they drag waxworm to the nest, it's juices will leak everywhere (if you cut it). So really aI reccomend mealworm, unless you want to keep it more natural and keep it live.

When I feed them waxworms I pick up the waxworm by the tail with a pair of tweezers. I then get a pair of scissors in the other hand and quickly cut off the head and the cut the body into two or three pieces. Yes, you get a lot of juices come out but I have never had a proplem with the juices soaking everything. My ants tend not to take the food back to the nest, instead they eat it on the spot it was found.

Thank you Thomas2010 for your wonderfull in depth reply on the issue at hand. I love pets at home. ;D I was planning to feed them live ones, because cutting them will make them explode all over my room. lol. But then I have colonies that need it to be cut, so maybe mealworms is the best choice then indeed. EDIT: Just saw Myrms post above. Maybe waxworms are better. :/ ARGHHH!

I could use a knife but with scissors it's one quick snip and it's all over for Mr Waxworm

The staff are really patronising and the stores are hard to navigate and everything is placed stupidly. But I am an Tesco Employee so I am bias

Lol Thomas. I find when cutting things with a knife like that, they do not cut. Scissors sound like the better option. You know what. I think I might get both of them and experiment with what ones they like best. I just hope they like one or the other, and not neither.

Yes, it would probably be best to get both if you have the funds.

when feeding mealworms better to feed "white ones" that is, recently moulted ones...as their skin will not have hardened.
