Many suppliers of mealworms feed their mealworm larvae with a juvenile hormone to stop them from becoming adults. This is done for several reasons, one of them being that if your mealworm larvae are preventing from becoming adult bettles then they can't reproduce, meaning that you have to keep going back to the supplier to buy more. The tub of mealworms I have clearly are not fed this as most of them are now pupae and there is currently one newly eclosed bettle running about.

They are easy to breed, they would survive 9mnths all you'd need to do is add a lot of bedding in the form of bran/oats.

Apart from the queens chamber, all the chambers look long and skiny, not like a ball That's actually more common in ant nests

22 August 2012, Wednesday - Happy Birthday Andrew Pope I now have quite a number of mealworm bettles that have hatched from the large/pupae I had when I brought this tub. I have just given the umbies their first bettle and they are examining it now. I also gave them a piece of strawbarry yesterday and they have buried it >.< Oh, and this is mine..
