Is it possible to have more than one ant farm and species sharing a large sized foraging arena?

Is it possible to have more than one ant farm and species sharing a large sized foraging arena? They would probably lead to fighting betwen the two colonies.

They'll probably end up fighting. Unless you lucked out and got types of species that are used to co-existing, but even then I don't think I would risk it!

Ok, I thought it could be kinda cool but if they going to end up fighting to the death of one of the colony's then its not worth ir

Yeah, I'd say it's too risky. of course, when I go out in the garden or something, I see 3, maybe 4 species of ants co-existing in the garden, foraging in the same area with little, if any, conflict. It's my aim to oneday be able to make a foraging area like you mention, where two colonies start off at the same time and grow together in co-existence, however I think it is a long shot and I just think too much could go wrong!

that would be cool though, would they fight just in the arena or would they seek out to kill the nest?

that would be cool though, would they fight just in the arena or would they seek out to kill the nest? Because they live in such close proximity it would probably be a fight to the finish.

it may be alright if you had an arena size of about 20 square feet but the nests would have to be at opposite ends of the arena and it would just be inpractical

What Myrm said. The small area would probably be a big factor in whether they try and destroy each other, so presumably since the foraging area would be smaller than is suitable for two colonies, they'd probably try and kill each other.
Food may be another factor. If you give them sources of food from elsewhere that sustains both colonies, you never know they may not find it necessary to forage as much. But again, I wouldn't risk it myself.

Themnorax Nylanderi are the only ants that are commonly known to co-exist in captivity okay. But it is very risky.

I'm very sure some suburban Aus species could manage it. But I don't wanna risk it! Too much at stake and too much potential for disaster!
