Whats the best way to prevent fungus or mold growth inside my Formicarium? The thing is if the soil has to be kept damp so the ants can drink water, its going to encourage mold to grow? Also if you do get mold or fungus growing how can you treat it without damaging the ants health? I was thinking a strong dose of Vinegar and water mix?

Keep the soil as dry as possible for the most part, I'd recon. It's really hard and I over-watered my terrarium almost immediately and mold came soon after. Anything I put in there, from chocolate to sugar, molded after a while. it's tough. Mold is the biggest reason I try and avoid using soil or dirt for ant farms. Keeping the soil totally dry seems to do the trick, but beyond that, I don't have a fix. If someone does, I'd love to hear it

Keep changing food regularly, good air circulation around the farm is key too.

What Thomas has said is true but most ants are fairly imune to most disease that acumelate on foods and in the soil. So I wouldn't worry too much about mold but obversly romove mold if you can.

Yeah. Like what Antboy said. Even though I've had mold issues, the ants I've had don't seem to be affected too much by it. Might just be my species though.

that sound very helpful guys thanx, I've decided to run so experiments too, with natural fungus/mold killing chemicals, I will take a few ants from the wild and then put them in a small container with mold growth and then spray them with 1, tea tree oil mixed with water 2, bi carbonate soda mixed with water and 3, vinigare, I will see what has the best results, all are non toxic and should not harm the ants, the Bi Carb removes any odors also 'this is what i read'
