i was just reading in the chat box about anons experiment and that poortea thought it should go in to a thread so here it is I'm doing an experiment on associative behavior in ants. I want to see if they can associate colour with a preferred food source. I've already tested which sugar concentrations they like so I know which sugar concentration solution to use and associate with a colour. However it's now beginning of October and many of them seem to have disappeared. Do you know what of time of year they go into hibernation? And if so, where can I find the last ones? Can I use something to lure them out? Also do you know anything about the associative behavior in ants? If it has been proven or tested before? I just don't seem to find any reliable information anywhere.

Are ants even that good with colour? Obviously it depends on the species, but many ant species I've experienced don't have fantastic sight (others? have great sight). It'd be very species specific.
What species?
