I live in South Spain, i read in a science study on the fight season and they said from September to October after the 1st rains showed the best results, we just had our 1st rains a bout 2 days ago, anyways i went to the ant hive i know where there is Messor Barbarus and i was there watching for about 2 hours, i saw alot of winged Messors come out all of a sudden then they marched back inside the tunnel, this happened a few times, i didn't know where to take one or not, how am i able to know if they have been fertilized, also the winged ants all looked the same size, i couldn't see male or female? around where i live we have been fining alot of de'winged 'new queens' ants around, but i havent a clue what they are

Fertilised queens will not have wings, the is the best way to make sure. You're very lucky to have Messor's as an native species.

Aah okay. Yeah it is always a good idea to find out what species are around you before buying.
