I'm not sure if they are larger in other countries, but yes in Australia there are ladybirds, they are only a couple of mm long though, very tiny. They can be yellow or red!

These are "Sugar Ants" (Camponotus consobrinus), and they are incredibly common in Australia. They are large, and have HUGE colonies that swarm you if you disturb their nest. They don't have a sting however, so it's more like you're being tickled when they attack you!
