Hey all, I once came here and asked about a Meat Ant queen and got loads of help. So I've returned asking for some more advice regarding a potential new queen. It was a flying ant day, and I noticed a lot of different species of ants flying around as it was the first warm/windy day in months (It's just coming out of winter here in Australia) I found what appears to be a small house-ant queen. It is about 1 centimetre long and as you can tell from the attached image, it has a large abdomen + hunched thorax, I strongly think it is a queen. However, it has been maybe two weeks and no larvae to be found- how long can it take for a queen to start popping out babies? Is there anything I can do to help her along? Attachments:

Hey, thanks. Haha I forgot to mention, but those are grains of sugar I threw in there for her! So I've put myself in a silly position where I can't tell if she's got eggs or sugar! Thanks!

(sorry for the double post) You mentioned that those were eggs. I think they were still the sugar so I relocated my Queen to a new nest as that one was getting a bit gross cause of the water in there. If they WERE eggs, and I've separated my queenie from her eggs, will there be chance she'll lay more if she's in a safe environment with food? or have I doomed her?

Thanks Dermy! A couple miniscule rice-shaped blobs sitting around the ant farm- I think she's popping them out! Very excited!

Hi Those were sugar granules but they are small enough to be mistaken for eggs so I can see why Dermy thought they were eggs. However, if you look at th epicture you can see that they are grains of sugar as they are square and separated. Ant eggs are white, oval shaped, about the size of a grain of sugar and they will be clumped together in one lump. She was obviously enjoying that sugar granule >.< She hopefull will lay some eggs vary soon. Do keep us posted.

Thanks Myrm! I'll take some pictures for you all with my camera if it happens! (It's in an Ant Farm Revolution so I can fit the lens of the camera in for quality photos, as opposed to the above one that was taken through cheap plastic casing for the ant). I'll make you all proud!
