Hi
I captured three new queens during mating, two had shed their wings and were running around looking for a new home, which I have given them. One queen has already laid five eggs, the other one hasn't as yet.
The third queen I captured that has its wings was still mating when I caught her, she has not laid any eggs as of yet.
So here's my question, how long would it take normally before they start laying eggs, of course one has done it in 24 hours, but the queen with wings doesn't seem very settled, and I am thinking of letting her back into the wild., or should I give her another 24-48 hours to see what happens ? She has mated. I have fed all three of them, and the two wingless ones are happy in the dark damp tube, but the winged one is coming into the light end all the time. Maybe she is still looking to mate?
Any advice would be welcome
Rdgs
Paul

Welcome to the forum Paul I honestly only caught my first queens from the mating flights last night. >.< But it can take many weeks for a queen to lay.My advice to keep your queens for atleast a month and if she hasnt taken off her wings then you could consider letting her out.

Thanks for the info, interestingly the queen with wings, just de-winged herself.

I let the new queen into a new farm I have made for her, she has dug herself a hole and now sealed herself in, so its all looking good with her right now. Might be some eggs laid already. My other queen has more eggs this am, and the third one I caught has none. So I will monitor the third one for another few weeks. I am keeping two in the test tube at the moment.
