I've just caught some lasius flavus queens from the flights yesterday and im going to keep one in a plastic lunchbox filled with soil. I read somewhere on the forum that i should bake the soil first, but how long should i bake it for?? thanks

..I read somewhere on the forum that i should bake the soil first, but how long should i bake it for?? thanks Absolutely not! There is no requirement to bake soil before putting your ants into it. Ants naturally live in soil and therefore it is an unnecessary procedure. I keep my ants in soil from my garden and I have never had a proplem with soil related issue. It's absolute nonsense that you should bake soil first.

Infact lasius flavus would love to eat the tiny bugs,as they are subterranean forragers!

That's what I thought,I personally think its quite cruel to keep them in captivity since your basiclly starving them to ground.

Keep their setup in darkness and they'll think their underground you can letr light in when you feed them or look at them.
