Every time I go outside I check the little nest on my path to see if ant ants are flying but I've not noticed anything. I know a nuptual flight is likely to happen in the evening after a hot day (what's one of those??!). Is there anything else that might help me spot it happening?
I've looked at lots of pictures of queens but I'm still a bit concerned I might end up packing beetles and flies away in a test tube! Any pointers?

The queens wil be on the ground running around when you see them flying wait half an hour to an hour and go look on the floor to see if you can see very large ants running around on the floor, the middle bit (thorax) will be as big or bigger than the head if its a queen ant. As for mistaken identity flies will fly away when you get close ants aren't that good at flying and probably will have tore off there wings if there mated. Ants have a thin waist like wasps bettles don't.

Thanks! That's going to help me out no end. Hopefully this won't all happen when I'm stuck at work!
