Hi We (staff members) Have decided to have a monthly picture competition. How it will work is I will choose a topic to do with ants and you guys have 3 weeks to submit a picture. (To do with the topic). I will then add a poll and you will have 1 week to vote for your favored picture. (You may NOT vote for yourself). We are aware that their are no wild ants in most countries in winter. And if you have a question to do with this, please PM me as it is best to have only pictures. ;D Bering in mind their are no wild ants, the 1st competition, is the best nest. It doesn't have to be homemade, it can be shop bought. The following should be taken into acount when voting for this competition. a) Color (i.e sand) b) How well set out it is (with decorations) Good luck and 2 karma points are availible to the winner.

Comon Guys, do none of you have a beton, gypsun, ytong, cork nest which you have made?!?. Or even 1 bought off a shop will do. I know it is not the most "exciting" topic, but there are no wild ants.

I won't be able to put up a picture of my set up until I get home at Christmas time. However, I have tried to describe it below: Here is a description of my Umby set up. It consists of two Antstore starter kits joined together. Nesting Box A ==== Nesting Box B ========= Small Foraging Tank ============== Large Foraging BoxBoth nesting boxes are (L)30cm x (H)20cm x (W)1.5cm and contain peat. The ants main nest is in Nesting Box B but they have expanded into Nesting Box A and occasionally out larvae in there, but for the most part it is empty of ants. There is a 5cm long piece of clear plastic tubing between nesting box A & B. Often larvae are put in there and the queen often hangs about in there too. The small foraging box measure (L)20cm x (H)10cm x (W)10cm and contains a vary thin layer of dry soil (about 5mm in depth - to prevent the ants from nesting in it). There is a plastic egg cup in here which contains a water reservoir made of wet cotton wool. This foraging box links to Nesting Box B by about 30cm of clear plastic tubing. The large foraging box measures (L)30cm x (H) 20cm x (W) 20 cm and contains a thin layer of dry sand (about 5mm depth). It also contains a plastic bird seed dispenser that has been adapted to contain a second water reservoir for the ants. It links to the small foraging tan by about 40cm of clear plastic tubing. Both nesting boxes are made of glass with thin metal lids. The foraging boxes are entirely of glass including the lid, but the lid also has a strip of fine mesh in it to supply air.

Yes I stole my girlfriend her aquarium ;-) She stopped having fish a while ago, so figured it would be perfect for ants. The colony is still too small for the aquarium, so they stay inside the ant farm most of the time. They have been out to explore most of it though

Hi all
I have decided to bring the poll forward to THIS weekend as currently their are no ants in the wild, so they there is next to no topic in which to do this competition on. So the poll will be added Saturday evening and you will be able to vote until 1 week after that. This thread will then be locked or put into hibernation until ants come out of hibernation. So any more nominations get them in quick over wise it will stay as it is.
