Hello everyone, I have been very quiet as far as posting pictures goes. I decided to spend some time and edit a couple of pictures. These pictures were taken in Florida as I am sure you have guessed from the title. I am not sure of a species as I have not bothered to check. I assume the species is a specialised hunter due to the manibles. If anyone has and I.D. then I would be happy to give a few exalts and my thanks. Photo# 1 Photo# 2 Photo #3 Photo# 4 Photo# 5 I am sorry the quality is not as good as Billy's. His are hard to beat. Flavus

They look like trap jaw ants to me, but I'm no expert. Cool photos by the way. If you want to get closer, I got four screw-on close-up lenses for a very good price! I think it was something like ten pounds.

I really am not sure about the I.D. Unfortunately I am still using a Point and Shoot camera. It does not take screw on lenses. I am looking to invest in a good camera when I get the money together. Thanks, Flavus

Most point and shoot cameras have a filter thread. Close up lenses are just magnifying glasses which can be screwed into the filter thread.

Where would this thread be located? I do not see any threads on the camera I have. It is an inexpensive camera. Cost me around $110.00.
It is a Canon PowerShot A580.

;D Not that kind of thread! It's hard to explain. If the lid of a jar is the close up lens, the ridges on the gar to screw the lid onto is the filter thread - kind of. The filter thread of a camera is on the inside, though.

I'm pretty sure this ant is of the species Odontomachus clarus, a type of trap-jaw ant.

I knew what type of thread you were talking about. I just needed a location on the camera. There is no way for me to access the inside of the lens. Flavus

Flavus, did your camera come with a hood? If so, there might be a filter thread on the inside of that.

I know what camera Flavus uses. I was unaware as to whether a separate hood is included with it, as it is with some cameras. I hope you have permission from a soldier ant or admin to post that link.

No, it did not come with a hood.

I think it is right. What source(s) do you use to I.D. your ants? Antweb and Google images have said that this is definitely a possibility.
