I just lifted a man-hole cover to find an ants nest, with dark coloured ants, with lots of eggs and two larger orange looking winged ants, that I'm assuming are queens, stood by the eggs. Are these queens of use to me, or do they have to fly and mate yet?
They actually ran away and hid before I could get a container to steal them, but I'm assuming they'll be back as there are lots of eggs.
Can anyone suggest a good way to steal them, if they are of use to me?

If you want a queen you do indeed need to wait until the nuptial flights where the virgin queens and males all fly into the air to mate, then simply find a queen and keep her into a test tube setup until she has workers
