Formica are great, but lids make things stressful for them. My Formica enclosures always need to be lidless. Formica have great vision, but vibration is what seems to bother them.

Before i asked you guys your opinion i decided to ask antstore as i had to email them anyway. here is their reply:
the Formica fusca srays lightly and much with formic acid. It is verystress-sensitive and they die very easily, when they are transported in smallboxes. If you want to keep them you have to look for a better ventilation thanfor the Carpenter ant. In general I can say, that the carpenter is morerobust.
are they being a bit dramatic? I think I'm going to get lemani.

I think I'm going to get lemani. My Lemani was very timid at first. She took a very long time to lay her first eggs. She was caught last spring and her first workers are only just about to eclose ;D . She used to gather her brood together between her feet every time I peeked at her. Shes not too bad these days tho. So if you chose this species I would say buy a queen with workers ;D Lemani are loads bigger than L. niger too. Hope this helps

Hehe, yes they are dramatizing it up quite a bit. Don't worry about getting Formica.
