Hi all,
I am very new to ant keeping and the forum. (I have posted in the intro section if you would like to know more).
I received my first colony yesterday. L. Niger. Queen and 6 workers as I like the challenge of raising a colony from very small. I have placed them in the foraging tank. They have been very active with 5 workers foraging at once. A couple of which have already discovered the slim nesting tank.
I was wondering whether you can over feed ants? I have placed a small spider and large fly (already dead) into the feeding bowl. The ants wasted no time in hauling them back to the queen in the test tube and she has been feeding on them hungrily. Already there doesn't seem to be much left of this meal.
I am assuming its fine, an that the ants will only eat what they feel the need to. But just wanted to check with you more educated folk, before I put more food in.
Thanks. Jay.

I wouldn't say there is such a thing as "over feeding"... Just make sure food is removed within 36 hours.

Yes, your ants will only eat what they want. Just make sure you don't under feed them. You might offer them lots of insects but they need some fruit and sugary substances too! ;D

Every 2-3 days, feed them sugar water and some insects. Remove food if they don't eat it with 24 hours. Otherwise they'll mold after some days. Make sure they get water and sugar, so they don't dry out and die.
