Hi, Unfortunately, all of my Lasius Niger died so I contacted antsuk and they sent me a new, free batch, because I think their honey solution was way too thick, and they knew it. Anyway, their service was excellent and I am so happy with the quality of the formicarium. They sent me another Lasius Niger queen and about 20 workers who seem slow but in good shape. There is plenty brood and they are all just staying with the queen at the moment; I'm definitely giving them time to settle in. (Normally I cover the cage so it's dark for them. ) Will they actually ever move up the stick, along the tube and into the nesting tank? You can see them in the outworld in the test tube. Sorry for bad photo: took it on my iPad. And, as I won't be touching the honey solution again, do I need to give the, tiny drops of water? Thanks! (click on the photo to see it bigger).

Yes don't worry, they will move. And a tube filled with water could be good, for hydration.

So long as the slim nest has the conditions they like, they'll move. It can take a long time with some colonies so be patient!

I've just bought the same set up for my first ant colony! Cool to see someone who has the same ants/set up as me! Mine haven't moved either, (day 8) so we both have to be patient! Keep us updated!

Good luck with your ants! I once had a L.niger colony that waited 3 months the move but they did in the end... (Funny, I think I might have told you this before >.<)

Everybody in here told me that, for some reason everyone repeats it when I say I just have to be patient, hihi. (Would be cool if they just moved though..)

Thanks! But how will they know to fully go along the long tube?
Also, what should I do about water?

Thanks! But how will they know to fully go along the long tube? Also, what should I do about water? They will send workers to investigate and search for new nesting sites and when they find one they all move (after a vote of course ;D) Give them a test tube water resouvoir to drink from for water

Thanks everyone I am really happy to announce that today, about 20 workers came out of the test tube to forage and found their little food dish. They must have got too hungry. They've been climbing up the wood stick I put in and, guess what? One of them had moved along the whole stick into the nests! He's gone back, though, but hopefully he'll spread the word. I put a few starter holes in the nest so he should realise what it's for!
