As some of you may know, I recently won the competition on AntHills.net and so should hopefully receive my prize soon which includes the brickwork formicarium! ;D I cannot wait to get my prize as it looks very smart and professional, seen as I will be getting a new nest I have started to think of species that I would like to keep... I would really quite like a species with a soldier caste but that aren't too hard to keep failing that I think I might go for L.Flavus as I really love their colour and have never kept them before! Any suggestions? - And what do you think?

Well done Fraggs Bin Lid. Yes, it does look awesome. I would suggest Lasius flavus.

Lasius Flavus would be good, as long as not in a sand or dirt setup, why not Rubra's? They have a great colors, and therye just generaly great, I could possibly try to get another 2 or 3 queens, and give them to you?

Thanks myrm, I was wondering though... L. Flavus like to forage underground on root aphids, what will then accept in captivity? Hi poortea, Thanks for the offer but I already have a colony of rubras so would like to try a different species.

Hi Fraggs Yes, naturally Lasius flavus like to forage underground but in a set up like that you could always put food into one of the test tubes which, hopefully, would feel underground to them.

I will buy you a Lf queen from AntsUK, then if she dies it's not your bin lid money wasted. I don't need your address, I will just arrange for you to place an order for the ant and AntsUK will bill me for it.
