Hi,
I have ordered a Lasius Niger queen and 25 workers. Many people say how their queen layed eggs during transport so when their ants arrived via the post, there was the ordered queen and workers, but also with some eggs and larvae.
I am very happy about that, but am wondering what I'll do if that happens to me. The reason being, in my instructions I printed of for my formicarium, it says to connect the test tube the ants will come in to an entrance in the formicarium.
If there are eggs and larvae, do I kind of 'tap' them in myself?
Or should I leave the test tube connected and allow the workers to transport the brood to the newly build nest when they feel ready?
Will the ants know what to do?
Thanks!!! ;D

Yes the ants know what they are doing, so leave them too it! ;D The ants will move them out of the tube if and when they are ready.. Edit- Please also refrain from taping the ant farm whether in be a test tube or more importantly the farm itself, it could cause a tunnel collapse.

Lasius niger tend to like to stay in the tube for a bit so you could endup waiting a wile as thay can stay there 2-3 months at the most. but remember with ants patience is key.

Oh yes, of course, I would NEVER tap the ant farm like that. I meant when there is no nest built there yet, you know, when I am letting the ants in to the substrate for the first time!

Hi Greenalole. In most of Europe, shipping ants is legal, while in the US, Canada, Australia, and other countries it is often illegal. Regardless of law, I think that it is unethical.
So, in short, it was legal for busyant to purchase those ants.

Europe has no laws against shipping ants. I think your allowed to have even leaf-cutters shipped here. If you are, I may see if I can get one.

Btw, just connect it to the nest. the ants move the eggies by themselves. Don't tap it!
