Hi, I have recently posted a couple of confused posts about what ants/encosure to get. I am very happy as I have decided to spend some extra pocket money and get a high quality formicarium, complete with a slim glass tank and a feeding, foraging area. I will order a Lasius Niger queen with 10-25 workers, some special honey solution and a tray of dried shrimps, mealworms, waxworms etc. to ensure they get the best protein they can I am ordering it all from antsuk.com tonight! This is the formicarium: antsuk.com/ant-starter-setIt looks good for a colony of Lasius Niger, right? If the colony thrives, would I be right to wait a couple of years and then add another slim tank? Thanks! Can't wait!!

It does look good for Lasius Niger - Myrmica Rubra too would do good!
I think it's good to see more and more females into and keeping, Very nice.

Yes, it is ideal to keep Lasius niger in. The great thing about these is that as the colony grows you can add more kits to it.

I have a vAry Similar version from antstore (Which I prefer) But they are brilliant setups for the native British species Including:- Formica, Lasius and Myrmica
It was a good investment!

Thanks, I'm relieved to hear that it's good. I am extremely interested in ants and Natural Biology! I absolutely adore animals - they fascinate me and I am definitely going to be a vet or veterinary researcher when I'm older - I also have a gorgeous naughty kitten, a robust breeding group of Helix Aspersa snails, Achatina Albopicta snails, Triops, a Russian tortoise and am about to get my ants - and I can't wait!!

My favourite animals are cats and ants.

I had some Achatina Achatina and some Achatina Albopicta but they layed over 5000 babies so I got rid of them all!
