Hey i was wondering if you guys could help... or have at least experience with whats happening! Okay so i have a colony of Lasius Niger, which i have had for a while and last week or so i noticed the queen (jolene ) wasn't moving.. she looked like she was dead, i even tried applying a few tiny drops of water around her and nothing. I left her in the tank and the ants dragged her off to one of the chambers, anyway a day or two later i noticed just her antenna were moving a little bit! and now a week later she seems to be moving and trying to walk but is acting unstable, a bit like how you would imagine a drunk ant queen to walk. Falling over getting back up and moving slow... Please any help/advice would be great

To be honest mysterventura, there is probably vary little you can do other than just nature take its course. If she makes a full recovery that would be good, but now she is being looked after by her worker ants, so it's best just to leave them to it.

My queen wasnt very good, as I used a bad nesting material and it was far too dusty, it killed all the workers but 1. And the small batch of eggs got corverd in it as well and they died. The queen was getting coverd in it so I removed her and her last worker. I left them in a test tube in a dark drawer, and now shes laid more eggs If you are using Ytong, and you carved it your self, you might not of got rid of the fine dusty particals from the carving, or if its a sand/loam mixture make sure you moiston it often. I would let her workers help her recover, and just wait.

Thanks guys for the responses, I do hope she makes it! whatever the workers are doing seems to be improving her ever so slightly so i will do what you guys suggested and just wait it out
Also the nest is a simple sand based nest which they seem to enjoy digging in, so I'm guessing that isn't the cause of whatever the problem is/was :/

Just make sure that you have plenty of water for the workers to access. They would also appreciate small bits of juicy fruits.
Best of luck!
