Has anyone tried freezing bugs for future use? The reason I ask is that I have a very small colony of Lasius Niger and any bugs that I buy always end up being wasted because the ants that I have just dont eat them quick enough and I really cant be bothered with all this "feeding" the cricket and keeping them alive so just wondered if anyone had ever tried freezing them?
I actually already freeze them to kill them before feeding but just wondered about keeping them frozen long term?

To feed them , I use potato, and soaked cotton. I put the cricket into a freezer, to slow it down when I feed the colonys in my garden, So I can place him down without him hoping off and escaping from the Laius Niger , But with my Lasius Niger I crush his head. But I supose that if you kept it cold enough it wouldnt rot/mould.

I thaw them out, let them get to room temperature then give them to the ants. No proplem.

Hi Liam. There is a good case against houseflies made by American ant keepers. Some varieties can contain fatal parasites that have destroyed entire colonies. This isn't true for captive fruit flies though.
