I plan to keep them as well , I just want to be a little more experienced before keeping more , but myrmica rubra look really fun to keep , try getting them in the nuptial flight , I want to as it will be amazing knowing I raised them from2-4 queens or try antsy ore?

Well I have not actually caught any queens (YET) but I think you push them in the test tube using a piece of cotton.

Aha , I'm not experienced , I was whatching the nuptial flight last year and kicking myself because I forgot to get test tubes , I thought it would be later, but If you want to learn more about ants , read through Myrms lessons , they really help!

I usually just put the open end of the tube next to a queen on the ground and sort of nudge her into it with my fingers. If you don't want to touch her for some reason, you could put some paper in front of her, let her walk on, and tip her into the tube.

Do myrmica rubra have nuptial flights I thought their colonies split in half when they get to a certain size. I have myrmica in my area and I didn't se them fly last year. I have seen queens in wild colonys loitering just outside teir nests with some workers.
