I bought my Lasius Niger colony 1 week ago and they arrived 2 day after I bought them, I was expecting about a week as I only bought standerd shipping from Ants UK. I payed for 11-25 workers and te queen and recived about 20 workers and a small amount of brood. I placed their test tube in their new home and the workers rushed out and found the small hole in the sand/loam I made to kick start the digging. They later guided their queen into the hole and slowly started extending it. Should I keep the test tube in their? It has got the water and coton and 5 ants are not moving out. But the other ants found the honey water I gave them in the petri dish and they drink a little and run back to their nest:D I'm considering making a journey of my Lasius Niger , but therye only a small colony at the moment. I hope to post pictures of them later today, thanks!

Hi Poortea (interesting username; what made you choose that? ) If it was me, I would keep the tube in there until all the ants have moved out. What are your bin lid plans for tonight?

They've just made a tunnel from the surface to the bottom of their tank, halfway it connects to the hole I made for them, where the queen is

That is good to hear, poortea, as it shows they are vary active and already making a nice nest for themselves, their queen and brood. Would you like a journal board of your own in the journals category?
