Since passing the entrance examination for my next school my dad has said he will buy me a new ant species. ;D I have decided either Formica fusca or Phiedole pallidula. This is as I want a large colony (cheating I know ;D). Believe it or not, for a larger colony these are one of the cheaper ones. Personally I am leaning toward fusca. However you guys may change my mind ( ). Please vote and give your reasons. Thanks, Jon. P.S. I didn't get Messor as I believe I will prefer an insect eating species over a harvester.

Well done, Jon Bin Lid. I am vary proud of you. I voted for pallidula because they have cute little soldiers. It was a hard choice though as both species are great.

I voted fusca I heard they can be nervous when they only have a few workers but since you are ordering a larger colony I guess it won't matter. They look vary intresting

Pheidole colonies grow very quickly, so if you are going to buy a large colony, you may as well go for Formica, though they seem to grow kind of slowly.

In the American forum, Pheidole has the highest-producing queens after Solenopsis invicta (red imported fire ant) and most of these colonies have only one queen.

I reckon I will get Phiedole Pallidula. I will make a thread regarding a nest later.
