The XS starter set that my lasius Niger came in had no sand loam mixture. Just a large bag of decorative sand. So I put that in the nest, it suddenly dawned on me that it is isn't the bet nest material. Is it okay, if not what will happen?

Is this the wrong order or The standard it comes with?
Go to B&Q and get some soft yellow building sand, perfect for them aslong as you add some rock at the bottom.

The decrotive sand you get with every starter set, but they have already started digging.

Let it dry out is what you are supposed to do you impatient bin lid, but it should do fine.
Don't wet it for another month I'd say.

If they have already started digging then I wouldn't worry about it. I don't like using the coloured sands that Antstore sell as its basically sand with dye in it, and although I'm sure the dye is safe, it can run when wet and stain the glass thereby obscuring your view into the ant farm.

You want it to dry out so it set's on their tunnels.

I had the same problem as Myrm with antstore's coloured sand. Not only did the 'ink run', but my ants got covered with powder. :/
