I for one have never heard of this species. Are they native to you? Messor BARBARUS are a VARY cheap species. Many people on here currently and have kept them including.. Myrm, antboy888, and Thomas2010. As well as many more. I am sure, another person may of heard of this species.

They sound v ary exotic... I have done a quick google search and cannot find much like you said. If you can't find exactly what you need, follow caresheets for other - closely related ants - such as other messor species.

I would try them on lots of different foods to find their preference, and perhaps give them a choice of nesting environments. Some different species are both in the same genus yet are quite different, take Formica rufa and F. fusca for example.
