I have heard that you shouldn't keep ants near computers, what is the meaning for this? I know that in the USA Solenopsis Invicta (fire ant), used to cause problems, as they were "attracted" to electrical appliances. Is this the reason? Or does computer have an adverse effect on the ants, or their behavior?

Some ants chew through the wiring and can cause short circuits and possibly fires caused by this. I have often wondered about keeping ants near computers. I have had several ant colonies that I kept on my computer table near my desktop and the queens always died. Could be coincidence. I use my labtop near my Umbies and that doesn't seem to affect them.

Within what sort of distance would it effect ants?

Within what sort of distance would it effect ants? I had my ants just a few inches from the monitor. The tower was under the table. My labtop is about one foot from the main nesting box.

Oh so 2 metres wouldn't do any harm?
