Checked nest as usual found Queen has been removed from nest as dead. They all looked healthy two days ago although the Queen never left the test tube since she arrived one year ago, rest of ants are fine and they had plenty of food and water. Now what do i do with rest of colony now, should i release them in garden or just leave them till they die out. Any advice welcome.

Hi daftmutt I am vary sorry to hear of this I know how you feel as it has happened to me before. As what to do next, well if you have a spare ant tank for a new colony then I say keep it going. If you want a new colony sooner rather than later and you have no spare ant farms then I say release them into the garden.

Hello daftmutt, I'm sorry to hear about this. It has happened to me many times. Don't feel like you did anything wrong if the rest of the colony is healthy. Like Myrm said, if you have a spare tank or you don't mind waiting to get another colony then keeping a colony of workers can be quite a good experience for newer ant keepers. Otherwise it would be best to release them into the garden. Try and pick a spot not to close to other colonies to give these girls a chance to make themselves a nest. Flavus

Thanks will try and find a part of garden which looks safe as they are just sitting in test tube. It is like they have no intrest in doing anything.
