Well I've decided to have another colony of Pheidole Pallidula. But they are vAry small. I don't really want them in a setup they have to dig because I won't be able to see them within the nest. What setup do you recommend for them? Larget caste (queen) is 9mm smallest (worker) is 1.5mm I was thinking ytong (aerated concrete) nest leading to a foraging box. But will the littlest workers get into air bubbles in the concrete? My budget is low and I don't have much space for the setup or much time to setup the setup. Any suggestions? Thanks guys! ;D

Nah, not a fan of them. Although I do have one so I'll keep it in mind.

I think I have read that they can did through ytong so wouldn't recommend a standalone ytong nest, one inside a glass basin like the one I recently made would be ok though just annoying if they did dig out but not end of world!
To be fair, if I got Pheidole I would be happy to let them did because I am pretty sure they are very active and aggressive above ground so should make up for lack of nest viewing!

Is there a coating I could use on the ytong?

Not that I know of, I might be wrong about them digging through it, you'll have to check other peoples journals (not on this forum) to be sure. You could cover all the outside with glass or metal (except the side you want to view) but that's a lot of work and will make it difficult to moisturise. Firstly before you make a decision you should research and find out if they can tunnel through ytong or not
