Hi there! My little ants (a small colony of Lasius Niger) is showing a rather strange behaviour: yesterday, for the first time, I gave them some milk, just soaking a small piece of cotton wool with it. They seemed to appreciate it, and suddenly came out of the test tube to "drink" the fresh milk. Later, the cotton wool dried and here the strange behaviour comes! Today I found a lot of "garbage" and fruit flies scraps stuck on the bottom of the cotton wool.... Is it normal? Why should they decide to do this only with the milk and not with the honey water, for example?
Thanks a lot, cheers!

Because milk goes rancid vary quickly in that environment.

I see.. I've thrown it away to keep the basin clean... so they tend to move the garbage to the places where there is already other dirty stuff, don't they?... interesting!
Thanks, bye

Thanks, bye Yes, ants generally have an area away from the nest where they dump all their garbage. If only bin lids would do the same thing in their bin lid rooms. >.<
