My small colony of Lasius niger (Queen, 9-11 workers and 30-40 larvae) have been hibernating since November, they were in a fridge until early March and even out in my living room which is never below 20c and usually 22-23c they are still dormant! I know they are alive because I can see the nest chamber and will become active when ready (or when the larvae are ready?) but I am so frustrated My Brother is back from Australia for 2 weeks and I am hoping he gets to see some activity after I have talked my ants up so much! So basically, are anyone elses colony/colonies still hibernating? If so what species? What is usually the latest your colony/colonies have become active after hibernation? I have read Myrms' journals and seen mid-April so know I don't need to worry too much yet.
