Problem- Now, I bought an ant colony of Lasius Niger from the German store, with 8 workers and 1 queen. Their current location is a cabinet under the staircase where it's dark. However, every time I want to observe them, I need to turn on the lights. The shy ants that are foraging are startled by the sudden flash of light, and run back to their test tube- which I covered- and don't come out for another few days. Because of this they have not found where the food is (I use OXO beef cubes 'cause I read my ants would like it in one post and not much insects are out) for 3 weeks. This is why I plan to move them.
Location 1- As I said, its on a shelf inside a cabinet, under our staircase. It's dark but when the lights on it scares away the ants. I say it's about room temperature.
Location 2- In my bedroom on an open shelf. There will be a curtain so my ants won't be in direct sunlight and will give them some shade. There is always light, and I think this will help my ants to become more confident when foraging during the day in the light. Warmer as well.

I would move the farm. I think that the ants would do better having a foraging area in the light and a nesting area in the dark because it is more natural.
If the shelf in your bedroom gets used a lot and the ants get scared from having something set down on it then I would keep the nest in the current location. If you have a red light then it is thought that most ant species cannot see red. Therefore you could observe them while they are in the "dark".
