Hey everyone, Sorry I have not been around. I have been mega busy with life. My last ant farm I created was brill, They out grew the farm and I didnt have time to create a bigger one so I released them into my back garden where they are living under my patio Anyway back on subject. I found some super antquriums (gel ones) For £7 each I brought 5 and I am planning on removing all the gel and replacing it with sand etc. My question, If I connect them all together would the ants gradually use all farms? I look forward to your replies

I'm sure they would.
Please tell us more about the overgrown ant colony.

They will most likely use all ant farms aslong as they are connected through tubes under ground.

As long as the entrance of the tube is underground. My guess if this wasn't the case the ants won't fully move into them all as the queen won't come to the surface as she gets older and most likely they wouldn't bring young brood over ground

Ok cool, thanks for that. I was going to connect them above gorund so you have saved me getting it wrong I would recommend that you connect them above-ground. If you make the connection below-ground then they will only find the connection if they happen to tunnel exactly in that direction to the spot, otherwise they will miss it completely and may never find it. Whereas if you connect it above-ground then the foraging/patrolling ants have a much better chance of finding it. My umbries live in two ant farms connected together and the connection from the main farm is at ground level which then goes into the second ant farm below ground (the soil in the second ant farm is fill right to the vary top.). The queen often stays in the tube connecting the two farms together which, like the farms, are blacked out.

But you can use a paint brush handle to make an entrance directly to the entrance of the tube.

I think ants naturally make satellite nests, where workers and brood are kept, so they should do this when they run out of space.
