My outworld has moss and soil from my garden in it, and I have noticed some mould growing. Why is this happening and what can I do to stop it? I imagine it is harmful to the ants? Thanks guys.

Hi Jaay, The mould is probably growing on food or the plants because of high humidity. Do you have a lid on your outworld? If you do have a lid then I recommend that you take it off and air out the outworld every night of so. Another thing to do is to remove all bits of food once they have been in the outworld for 2-3+ days. One thing you could do first is to remove as much mould as possible via tweezers or some other way to gently pull it out. I hope this helps. Miles

If I leave the lid open, ants will get out... any way around this? I will open it just now seeing as I am home and they aren't using the outworld anyway. I'll try and remove the mould and maybe some moss. I have quite a lot in there. Thanks again.

Well, you could use one or a combination of the many anti escape methods such as PTFE, Vaseline, Oils, or any of the others. If you have one of those applied you will have to monitor it but your ants should stay in. You could also just have those there and take the lid off when needed and replace it for added measure.

Looks like I was right about a humid outworld being a bad thing. By the way, try to keep moist soil in the outworld to a minimum, no more than a few millimeters deep, or the ants will attempt do dig a nest in there. Best to keep it dry, too, but then your moss would die.

My friend has used dead moss in his frog enclosure... I bet it would be fine with ants too

Yes, there's nothing wrong with dead moss, but it might not look as nice.
