I have 3 colonies and I have had them for 3 or so months now. They are in test tubes because I dont have the space or time to have proper setups. They are 2 flavus colonies and 1 niger. I put them in a drawer, not to bothered about them. They are disturbed every now and again and I look at them occasionally. The workers are small due to just having water too eat. One colony of flavus was given a woodlouse months ago its still there but dry so it doesn't grow mould. The flavus colonies are doing best which is surprising since one has a huge amount of mould on the cotton wool and was flooded out. The flood victims weren't remove from the tube until three days after and they all survived but one. I dried one out when I saw it moving and it went around and sorted out the others. Amazing to watch. The numbers for each colony is 10+ its great to see them doing well without proper care. Hopeful for the species, showing they can adapt well I suppose. Rare I put a worker or two into my fish tank as a delicassy for the guppies.
I now focus on breeding fish rather than caring for ants. I have 5 adult guppies, a catfish, two shrimp and 4 baby guppies. Possibly more baby guppies now since a mum was ready to give birth and I'm away from home 'til sunday so can't check. Mum has given me permission to set up a second tropical tank to breed siamese fighting fish.
Not sure why I posted just thought some might like to know since I don't have journals anymore.
