You may have hear of this stuff while reading about ants on the web, but you might not know what it is or how to make it. It is a jelly which provides ants with both sugar and protein. Here is a recipe for it from my book, The ANTS.
My book recommends using insect fragments in addition to this diet. You can get agar on Ebay.

Yes, this recipe is listed in a number of ant books, with some variations. Good find, Billy. <exalt>

Where do you get Agar other than ebay, I tryed gelatine but it sucked badly, I won't even mention how bad it was.

I looked around shops for it but I couldn't find it. The best place I could find was Ebay.

You might find agar in some health food shops such as Holland & Barrett.

I tried Holland and Barret. No agar in my local one.

Do you think you could freeze Bhatkar diet, and then defrost it later and feed it to ants? You see, the recipe makes an awful lot of Bhatkar diet, and it would go off before I can use it all.

Hi Billy
Yes, I believe you can. I certainly have frozen the Ant Jelly I have made (based on the Bhatkar diet but with gelatine used instead of agar) with no proplems.
