Just finished carving my nest out of ytong. Looks pretty good for a first attempt (after failing badly trying to make one from plaster). Just got to put perspex front on tomorrow and Ive got a nest.
Ive also hollowed out a piece of ytong for a foraging area. Think I'm going to put some sort of hinged perspex lid on this tomorrow.
P.s. Ill get some pics on too.

Moved the topic to our ant nest section I've noticed some other members wanting to carve a nest out of ytong, could you tell us what tools you used? Should give them an idea on how to do it themselves Can't wait to see the pictures btw!

Hello,
Stender the only tool I use when carving a y-tong is a screwdriver. And also were some protective glasses or normal glases as the dust of the y-tong if gotten in the eyes can irritate quite a bit.

I'll second the glasses thing. Y-tong dust in your eyes is very irritating. In regards to the tools I used, I wanted a bit more of a professional finish than a screwdriver (no offense animal). So I used one of those sideways milling drill bit things. As I rite this I'm about to go out to garage and finish my nest. I'll take some pics as go along
