I have just bought a colony (I hope) of Lasius flavus, but I can't see anything resembling a queen.
Am I right in thinking she should be around the same size as a Lasius niger queen, and easy to pick out amongst the workers?
I think I may just have a load of ants and not a colony.
Any help appreciated.

Hi Steveoh.
The difference in size between a flavus queens and her workers is unmistakable. You should be able to spot her with your eyes closed.
Are you able to send a picture, even if it is blurry?

Hi Myrm, from a reptile forum. I'll pm you the thread if you like? Nothing at all that sort of size. And all the ants are up into the living area now. Plenty of cocoons, workers, eggs, but no queen.
