Hi As I type this there is a huge ant fight going on in my garden between my ex-captive Lasius niger colony and a small Myrmica rubra colony. Needless to say the rubras are getting slaughted. The rubra colony is only about 80 workers in size but the Lasius niger colony contains thousands of ants. Although on the battlefield the rubras are outnumbered by about 5 to 1 there are still hundreds of niger workers pouring into the area. I can see lines of niger workers making off back to their nest with rubra larvae in their jaws. The rubras do not stand a chance.

Did you put the rubras there yourself?
One on one I reckon a rubra would beat a lasius.

did you put the rubras there yourself? No. It's almost over. Didn't take long for those hoody nigers to annihilate the rubras.
