In the case that an ant colony only has a limited amount of space in which to grow but an unlimited supply of food, what happens ? Does the queen stop laying eggs due to overcrowding ? What happens ?

Some species can control their population, but others are not so skilled. Remember, ants in the wild usually have no glass walls stopping them, so if there is no room they just move . With an unlimited food supply, they do not have to take the food to the nest all at once, or at all in some cases, so the ants might just start to breed alites (winged ants) instead of workers (seen as there is so much food).
