Moved them in 2 days ago and seem to be happy, already started storing up seeds glass top has a scylicone hinge (the grey line) that allows for feeding and watering there is also a tube that feeds in to a hole under the tunnels that can be used to moisten the nest if need be, having some trouble with water collecting on the glass when the nest heats up a little (it sits on top of my skink vivarium so it gets some heat through the base) any suggestions as to how i can stop this would be awesome! imgur.com/a/775tx

Yer those water droplets are really annoying, something like that would really get on my nerves, I've been thinking and the only thing i can come up with for now is if you slightly tilted the the set up so the water would slide way to the side and be absorbed back into the concrete, but you would still have that steamed up glass look with is'nt nice, Another way is to drill a few small holes with a glass cutting drill peice, make the hole bigger enough for the moister to be able to escape and cover the hole with mesh so the ants canot escape. That all I got for now

i was thinking this too, i have some diamond tipped bits for my dremal that are pretty small, maybe some ventilation is in order.
Ive read in other places that messor can do fine in dry nests, if I can get it so it dosnt mist up any more should I worry about adding more water to the nest its self or just continue with the water thats in the test tube and maybe a small amount in with the food?

I also loath the condensation issue with ant farms! In my opinion (though I could be completely wrong) if water is building up enough to make enough condensation on your glass (like in your picture), it may be too heavily watered. I've noticed a link between condensation and the onset of mold later, so I try and keep it a bit more separate. I've never had to deal with an exclusively 'damp' nest though, so I'm not sure how it would affect the living conditions of your barbarus. You should probably look for a more experienced opinion on the matter than myself

I'm just a Newbie to this Ant game my self and don't have much experience at all, I have however read recently alot about the Messor Barbarus as I'm wanting to keep them, I read that its important to keep apart of the nest dry in order that the ants can store their seed there, also they live in a natural habitat where its dry most part of the year, apart from the occasional down pour and the winter mounths which is realy a very small winter compared to the Uk
